Toast to a Glades Resident - Tom Watson.

John Ritchie read the Toast and Marcus Adams provided Tom’s Rotary background.

I grew up in Caulfield and didn’t meet my dad until I was two. He was in the army, working in Queensland to build barracks during World War II.

I had an older sister who passed away sadly earlier this year and a younger brother named Ken. As a teenager, I loved playing football for Ashburton and Glen Iris. In the 1950s, my family was featured in a Christmas portrait for a Myer advertisement, and I still have it.

I separated from my wife, Dorothy, but one good thing that came from our marriage was  have a daughter, Deborah, who lives in Emerald. Before I moved to Emerald Glades, we lived together on five acres with my two grandkids. My son, Chris, is a farmer in Yea.

Back in my day I enjoyed gardening, with a love of flowers, planting bulbs and annuals. My favorite is the peony rose. I like watching football and used to support Collingwood, but now I don’t follow any particular team. I enjoy horse racing, red wine and going for drives. My brother is very special to me and still visits me weekly and together we go out for drives or go out for lunch.

In 1995, closer to my retirement, I joined Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links with my son-in-law. I also got into horse racing and would visit Cranbourne Race Track to watch the training sessions. I had a permanent syndicate for six or seven horses. I am an honorary member of the Emerald Rotary club and thank you all for this toast today.
