PP PHF Shalini Penny β toast to the elderly explanation
- Used to have a member PHF Peter Hadwen used to do a toast to the elderly and take a potted plant to them.
- PP PHF John Richie has taken over the role β Mark the coordinator at the Glades sents out a bio to John.
- In the background a letter is given to the person and it lets the resident know that the RC of Emerald likes to be involved in the community and information about our involvement and how we shared their lifeβs journey with the club members. We tell them we have toasted them and thank them for sharing their lives.
- Shalini has feedback from the residents and some are able to understand and are quite touched about what we do.
Toast to the Elderly PP PHF John Richie β Anne Ferres

It was at a dance in Belgrave that I crossed paths with my future husband. A not-so-secret attraction to his motorcycle sparked our romance, and Bob, my beloved husband, later surprised me with my very own set of leathers and a motorbike. Our family enjoyed countless adventures on two wheels.
Becoming a full-time mother to four children kept me thoroughly occupied, from tending to cloth nappies to participating in school fundraisers, supporting local footy clubs, and engaging with various church groups.
Bob retired at the age of 57, and we both embraced our membership in the Ulysses motorbike club, with Bob serving as its president. Camping trips with our fellow club members became cherished traditions. Unfortunately, at the age of 61, Bob's life was cut short by cancer.
In the wake of his passing, I remained resilient and dedicated to personal growth. I pursued further education, even delving into marriage guidance. My outlook on life remained forward-focused, and I refused to dwell on the past. I am very excited to be at Emerald Glades and think it was the best decision I could of made. I still have my independence, my car and have reconnected with old friends and able to feel plentiful again as I can help others and bring them joy and company.
