All that attended the AGM last night were thrilled to see that Tom Watson was able to join us. The Glades Care Home are working with us to allow for this to occur and John Ritchie has volunteered to take care of the transport – thank you so much John.  The COVID certificate was a bit tricky however I have resolved this and have hard and soft copies as back up.
 
As with all AGM’s they are over and dusted in 10 minutes.  Congratulations to Rotarian Sangeeta Bajaj for securing the role of Club President for 2023/2024. Everyone was thrilled to receive this news and look forward to her taking on the role following Marcus Adam’s year.
 
The “fun” session of Celebrity Heads was fun for most of the six members taking part however I don’t think Ian Wakefield was fully into it – full marks for taking part though. Funny how several of the participants just didn’t pick up on the clues being fed to them from Emma and Lyn – “spinning around” for Kylie Minogue/Tina and numerous ones for Diana Ross/Gayle. Well done Ian Ash/Donald Trump. And what about John Henderson who was so close at minute one with Telly Savalas but took forever to come up with Kojak! Thanks to Roy Bowyer/Dick Smith – I thought you would get that one immediately.
 
Our latest awards were circulated – EVA Community Group of 2021 and Certificate of Appreciation from the Rotary Foundation for our financial support of End Polio Now – a copy of this should be below.
 
We have now commenced working the first of five concerts at Rochford Winery with Vicki, Roy and I attending last Sunday. We were able to take breaks and watch the concert and dance so what a bonus. This one was an Eagles tribute, Brian Mannix and the Chantoozies. Next Sunday Tina and Roy will be working and it is a 70’s Rock Revival and Fleetwood Mac tribute. Sunday 12th is the concert that many of you have tickets for “Sunshine of your Love” is the theme and Marcus Adams is working.  Congratulations to Vicki for obtaining your RSA.
 
John Shaw went shopping to Officeworks on our behalf yesterday and has secured the bulk of our new Hybrid equipment – just a couple more items to purchase and we have our own new set. Glad that at least Kris Ash was able to test if for us.
 
The Fundraising team are finalising the raffle that they are running at Woolworths and the Market over the next two weekends. A child’s bike, drill and pamper pack are the prizes and we will be looking very professional with specially printed tickets and an eftpos machine.
 
Finally, don’t forget to get your RSVPs to Lorna by 7th Dec for our Christmas Party at The Independent on Tuesday 14th December.  I believe the cost is $50ph and that we are looking at a Bad Santa $10 – Kelly is finalising the programme so hope to confirm more soon. Think kick off time is 6.45p.
 
Also, for the Belgrave Rotary Xmas at Rose Cottage, Monbulk on Wednesday 8th December we have 8 members confirmed to attend – remember it is BYO.

The Annual General Meeting was followed by:
 

President Shalini’s Report

  • Showed and passed around the Glass Plaque and the framed Award for being the inaugural Community Group of the Year 2021 as chosen by the Emerald Village Association (EVA).
  • At the Presidents’ Meeting with the DG, that Shalini attended last Friday night, our Club received a Certificate of Appreciation from The Rotary Foundation for our support of EndPolioNow.
  • Thanked Kris and Ian Ash, Kelly and Andrew McAllister and Roy Bowyer for representing the Club at the opening of the new SES building on Saturday.
  • Roy, Vicki and Shalini volunteered at the Concert at Rochford Winery Coldstream on Sunday afternoon. It was a good afternoon and not too taxing as there were rest breaks and Rochford staff assisted at the gate.
 
PP PHF Ian Wakefield had sad news to pass on:
  • The wife of PP PHF and Honorary Life Member Colin Brown is on life support, which will be switched off tomorrow (Wednesday). Do not contact Colin until Thursday at the earliest. Pat and Martin Buoncristiani and Sue Gregory have been notified.
 
PP PHF Emma Clark told us that PP PHF Catherine Elfick is in hospital and has been diagnosed with kidney stones. She is not in pain, but may need an operation.

Committee Reports

Youth – PP PHF Tina McInerney
  • The Breakfast Club is finishing this week because of the high rate of student absenteeism expected next week. Tina, Lyn and Lorna have been running the Club this year, and next year a roster will be introduced to involve more of our members in this successful venture and share the load.
 
All-American – Roy Bowyer
  • The All-American Committee had voted to hold the event in April 2022 at the Toomuc Reserve in Pakenham. Roy contacted Cardinia Shire Council only to be told that the ground is a construction site surrounded by builders’ fencing, and that there is no guarantee that construction will be completed by April. This means that we will now have to eat humble pie and approach Gembrook Oval Management, but before doing so, Ian Wakefield, Marcus Adams and Don Borg will carry out an inspection on Wednesday morning. Roy learnt that we need to tick all the boxes first before making decisions and announcements.
 
Community Service – PP PHF Emma Clark
  • Emma has enough members now to write Christmas cards to the residents of The Glades, and advised that we sign off with Emerald Rotary Club and add our own name if we wish.
  • The application for the “Rescue Our Logs” Project is being finalised.
  • RAWCS money will be used for the “Reflection” Space at Kalorama Park.
  • The Cluster Presidents will meet next Wednesday and see if some of the money can be donated to the SES.
T2T Market:
  • This will be our Christmas Market and we want to go all-out and make it a Blockbuster so all stallholders are now welcome.
  • The Lyrebird Choir will be attending
  • We are looking for a Father Christmas.
  • The Cockatoo Market Stallholders are invited to attend and are being told to spread the word.
  • Unfortunately, we can no longer use our Rotary insurance to cover the stallholders; they need to provide their own.
  • Our COVID COMMANDER is Emma. Emma will be “on call” even though she will be supervising a Working Bee at the school that day.
  • That the Stallholders are double-vaxed will be checked when they apply to have their stalls, so prior to the Market.
  • On the day, we will manage the patrons’ COVID compliance, i.e. green tick.
  • After the December Market, it will be reviewed for 2022.
 
Fundraising  - Kelly McAllister
  • Our Christmas Party will be held at The Independent Restaurant in Gembrook on Tuesday 14th of December, with details to follow.
  • Children and grandchildren, especially talented ones, are invited to perform. Nicholas and Lia Adams and Patrick Clark are on the list so far.
  • We are running a massive Christmas Raffle, and among the prizes are a bicycle and helmet, and a drill. Raffle tickets are going on sale this coming Saturday and Sunday from 10am. to 2pm. and again on Sunday 12th December outside Woolworths, and also at the T2T Market on Saturday 11th December.
  • Ian Ash circulated the Roster for members to add their names to.
  • Donations of prizes for the raffle are being sought from members but you’ll have to be quick and give them to Kelly before the weekend. Tracey  kindly offered to donate sunglasses.
 
President Shalini’s Closing Remarks:
  • The Belgrave Rotary Club is holding their Christmas Party at Rose Cottage on Wed. 8th December; add your name to the sheet going around if you wish to attend.
  • It was wonderful to welcome Tom Watson, whom we haven’t seen for a long time, to our meeting. Thanks to John Ritchie for being Tom’s chauffeur.
  • Welcome back Carol Cain, who has visited us three times now.
 
PP PHF John Shaw ran into Past President of our Club Rex Breen in his travels. Rex’s wife is in remission, and he asked John to pass on his regards to our members.
 
The Fun Session then followed in the form of two rounds of “Celebrity Heads”.
The contestants wore Reindeer Antlers with their celebrity’s name on them.
The round one contestants were: Ian Wakefield – Ned Kelly, Tina – Kylie Minogue and Ian Ash – Donald Trump.  Ian Ash came up trumps this round.
The round two contestants were: John Henderson –Kojak, Gayle – Diana Ross and Roy– Dick Smith.  John was the winner this time.
 

On- To-Conference

 
Next year’s District Conference is going to be a “cracker” especially with its emphasis on Rotary’s newest Avenue of Service, Environment and Sustainability. Climate Change is the greatest challenge of our times, and we can learn so much at the conference about how to save our Planet and leave our children and grandchildren a legacy we don’t have to be ashamed of, AND hope for the future.
If you’ve never been to a District conference, NOW is the time!
If you still require accommodation, contact Vicki this week please so bookings can be finalised; we have a good number going but “the more the merrier”, especially when you hear what costumes Lyn and Gayle have dreamt up for us all!!
 

SES Opening

 
We were delighted to support the opening of the SES facilities in the main street of Emerald last Saturday. 
 
One of the busiest units in the state has been operating out of a shed for an eternity and their new facilities are so well deserved.  I am sure most of us have had a road//drive cleared by the amazing volunteers at some time or another.  Their work with major car accidents takes its toll physcially and mentally therefore we hope they enjoy being able to unwind and debrief in their new state-of -the-art facilities. 
 
It was a proud day for Ben Owen and the crew, past and present.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Christmas Raffle

Still needing a few slots filled for the raffle selling - with 1000 tickets at $5 each we could raise $5k.
 
We are very grateful to Barry Plant Emerald for the donation of the bike, to Mitre 10 for the drill set and to the team and members for the pamper hamper.  The Paradise has offered to sell tickets at the pub for us so please do thank them when ordering food in the next week or so. :)
