Well, here we all are after a very lively meeting last week during which I seemed to have been cleaned out of my spare change – thanks to our Fine Sergeant! Don’t worry, “I’ll get you, my pretty!!” ;)
Please remember to let Lorna know if you are attending the meeting each week or putting in your apologies. It’s really important that we let the Pub know numbers, ideally by Monday night so they can organise catering accordingly.
Of course, this week we will be meeting on WEDNESDAY night instead of our regular Tuesday, at The Independent in Gembrook….showbag packing followed by dinner. Please be there as soon as you can so we can knock out the packing and enjoy some fellowship over dinner. Family members are very welcome and encouraged to come along and help; please let Marcus know by Monday if you are bringing extras so he can let the restaurant know.
We’re coming into a busy time of the year for our own families and our Rotary commitments. A time for giving, not necessarily presents, but as Rotarians we will be giving our time. Time for the Kids Fun Run With Thomas on Sunday 24th November; Time for The Emerald Glades Christmas Do on Tuesday 3rd December; Time for the Carols By The Lake on the 13th December; Time for the Dig In Café; and Time for the future events (All American and the Deb Ball for example) that simmer away in the background all year, but still need Time.
Thank you to everyone for giving Time throughout the year. I hope we all realise that some have more Time to give than others, but it is no more or less valuable. We do what we can, when we can; give as much as we can, when we can. With all our gifts of Time wrapped up, there wouldn’t be much room left under the Christmas tree! I hope you have a bit of space remaining for yourselves and an even bigger bit for family!

PP PHF Kris Ash provided an insight into her fundraising journey over 20 yrs with a view on the amazing people she has had the privilege to meet, those humbling, inspiring, funny and soul touching individuals that do so much for the causes they are passionate about.
Her journey has taken to to roles at Peter Mac, The Walter & Eliza Hall Institute, Very Special Kids, Ronald McDonald House and now Blackbaud to name a few. She now looks after over 120 clients in the NZ market.

TOAST TO THE ELDERLY
The toast this month was for Clem Johnson who has lived in the Glades for about a year and absolutely loves it. He’s a happy go lucky sort of chap who has led a colourful life. His grandparents migrated from UK to Australia about 1925 and settled in the Mallee.
He’s got a birthday in November, not far away, for his 84th; he was born in WA at Boulder, but spent childhood at a tiny village near Lalbert in the Mallee that had 8 houses, two churches and a pub, about 50 km west of Keran and in the middle of nowhere !
When he was still a baby, his grandfather suddenly decided that they would all settle in a more hospitable area of Victoria and the family moved to Melbourne area. They lived variously and modestly in Traralgon, the Eildon Weir, and Croydon, settling in Coburg where he went to primary school. After doing an apprenticeship at Brunswick Tech College he joined a mechanical engineering company to cut gears and car parts.
Later he took up car rallying, competing for VW and helping with mechanical jobs. This led into his competing in car rallies and he drove several times for VW in the Redex Round Australia Rally.
After this exciting period he developed interest in breeding Boxer dogs, and with ‘Munro’, achieved for the dog his highest attainment of ‘Grand Champion Boxer’. Over about 10 years he showed his dogs and gained many prizes.
He loves his life in The Glades, and enjoys participating in the social functions.

Bailey's Day TUESDAY 3 DEcember
Some club members will once again be supporting Patrick and his amazing fundraising journey in memory of his son, Bailey.
16 incredible years – over $3 million dollars raised!
With the help of dedicated supporters, including some who’ve been involved since the charity began; the Bailey’s Day team works tirelessly throughout the year to raise funds.
Moving forward, Bailey’s Day will continue to help improve the level of care and resources at the Children’s Cancer Centre at the Monash Medical Centre. Also on the agenda is cancer research, as we continue to strive towards a cure for children’s cancer.
