- Meeting started with a Rotary Invocation and toast to Australia and Rotary International.
Updates & Announcements
- Promotion for the Rotary Kids Fun Run. Puffin Billy Committee are giving us the opportunity to have stalls at these events to try and promote our event the day before Great Train Race. At it's the Junior Dash 13th September and its Thomas Day out. We are seeking probably six people, if we can get them, to man a stall from 8am until 2pm. We are looking at two shifts, three people between 8am to 11pm and then 11pm until 2pm. If we can get three people for each shift. You could let Kris know if your able to help.

Toast to the Elderly - Helen Bye
I am married to Geoff he is currently living in our family home in Selby; we met in my early 20s. We have 2 daughters Paula and Catherine and also a son Mark. I have a good relationship with my children. I don't have any grandchildren, and it would be very unlikely that I will. My first job I was working in the TAB in Belgrave. I went to Deakin teachers' college; I upgraded my qualifications to a BEd. I worked in primary schools; I worked at a few different schools including Bayswater and Cockatoo. I preferred teaching grade 5s and 6s. towards the end of my teaching career I did relief teaching. I enjoy doing Jigsaws and have 1 going in my room that I will complete throughout the day. The staff often come in and assist me with a piece here and there.
Guest Speaker - Carol Seeger
I have the Emerald Monbulk Wildlife Shelter. I have been doing it for 35 years and I started off with just a little few possums for a year or so and then I graduated to birds and now I've had practically everything you could have in Victoria as a native wildlife. I've got, oh I don't know, about 50 kangaroos and a lot of wombats, wallabies, birds & possums, I have everything.
And I'd like to thank you for thinking of me and donating $2000. I've been able to build this amazing aviary up the back for more birds because a lot of people don't do the birds and I get a lot from the RSPCA have been surrendered or confiscated so I keep them more and more room because they keep coming in all the time plus I've got a lot of other birds as well so I'm very grateful for that. The photo's are part of the aviary I had, it was a possum a big possum aviary but there's quite a few people who are in possums, so I wanted to change my aviary into a bird one instead of a possum one. This is where your money went to which I was very grateful for, and this is mainly for surrendered birds and it's also a flight area.
 
The shelters over in the other side of town are getting full and I'm even getting them drive all the way from the Otways to bring me a little joey as well because there's so many kangaroos getting hit on the roads constantly all over Victoria as well as Wellington Road you all know about. I suppose and all the shelters are getting full, and they can't take any more, so people are driving all the way over here just to give them to me.
We're all really full here but I can't say no, someone has to take them.
