Repairing bodies and rebuilding lives

• Model still used today – one patient at a time.
• All Dr, nurses and allied health are volunteers
• 2 weeks to help
• 17 countries across Asia Pacific
• Go where asked only – do not impose

Rotary an integral part of the organisation – as a direct result of Rotary clubs and Rotarians 26510 surgeries have been undertaken and 8120 training opportunities for partner surgeries.  There is an equal emphasis on mentoring and training as well as the patients

• Patient impacts – changing lives
• We take our medical system for granted, Gladi story - Laos, she would have been treated and would not have had a large tumour that grew very large.
• Bilateral cleft lip operations find it hard to suckle, thrive and grow
• Burns operations – a lot of open fires in the Asia Pacific region – need continual surgery to address the contraction of the burns
• – Elephant Man condition of eye repaired and he is now able to be more sociable

• No teams since February – focus to help in-country partners to prepare for COVID-19 and helping remote countries.

• Regional Response with Australia and NZ – have been able to assist with supply of tests
• Prioritisation of virtual mentoring and digital training – via a secure website to provide webinars and guiding through operations.
• 2007 – 2018 $7,800 donated by RC Emerald, untied funds so can be allocated where most needed - have enabled team to go and do the wonderful work of Interplast.
• In an ideal world they would build capacity so Interplast not required.
• Perhaps donate the cost of a Rotary meeting to help treat children and adults to get the surgery they need.
• MOU with ROMAC to bring patients to Australia if they cannot undertake surgery remotely.
