Rotary Matters

Dear friends,

A very big thank you to PE Gayle for stepping in as president last week whilst I was galivanting around the Flinders Ranges. There are times when you just need to get away, have a work & digital detox and just enjoy the moment. I've included a photo of the travel party at Razorback Ridge and of course a Rotary shirt came with me. It is at these moments that I truly appreciate where we live, and how special it is to have a strong & diverse friendship circle. Unsurprisingly, this is also what our Rotary Club is!

Last week we were privileged to be involved in the presentation of club executive pins to the inaugural Emerald Secondary College Interact Club. Our club has a strong history of supporting youth programs, and to me, this leads to increased community engagement, strong local communities, and ultimately, through an increased awareness of what we stand for, new members. Well done to Melinda for organising this activity.

This week, I'm excited to be stepping away from our regular club meeting agenda so that we can all pack more than 12,000 meals for a very worthwhile project initiated by the Rotary Club of Canterbury. This project is called Forameal.  https://forameal.org/  and is a very practical way of 'doing good in the world,' because wherever a humanitarian disaster strikes across the ASIA / Pacific region, people still have to eat and these meals will provide emergency nutrition during the initial relief work. I would encourage every member to attend and take part in this very worthwhile project.

Please remember that we're starting at 5:45pm on Tuesday, with a meal from 6:00pm, with packing to commence at 6:30pm.

Rotary Snippet - Forameal project

FORaMEAL, a project of the Rotary Club of Canterbury is an initiative to help provide emergency relief meals for those impacted by natural disasters. Each year over 250,000 meals are provided free of charge to vulnerable individuals and families across the Asia Pacific region in times of disaster. To date, over 1,100,000 meals have been distributed for FREE!
Yours in Rotary,

Peter Brock

Guest Speaker Jane Hilson Myotherapist from Interactive Health in Selby

Jane presented on feeling good!.. and the interaction between physical therapy, pychological therapy and challenging activities - the 3=legged stool of support.

Jane explained how emotions can affect chronic pain as can social aspects of your life.  That pain is in the brain - no brain no pain.

Jane teaches myotherapy and plays the sax in a band and had great insights into that side of her career :)
