We were down a bit on numbers at the meeting this week but there was no lack activity as the meeting was punctuated by a lot of stapling for the Great Community Raffle.  Many thanks to Lorna for her very efficient coordinating of this as we seemed to be done in no time and thanks to everyone who assisted with getting the books stapled.

 

At this Tuesday’s meeting Martin B will be speaking on his new book ‘Developing Mindful Students, Skillful Thinkers, Thoughtful Schools’ which I am really looking forward to.  I am also hoping that Caroline (the prospective new member that Malcolm Chiverton introduced) will attend for a second time, so please make her welcome.

 

As I mentioned briefly on Tuesday, our own Russ Marnock did us proud at the D9810 Presidents’ Meeting last Friday presenting on Rotary initiatives to End Trachoma and his message was well received by all even though he was the last speaker for the night.  It was also good to see a heartfelt presentation given by a non-Rotarian (my apologies, his name escapes me) on the prevalence and impact of violence against women which is the primary cause of death amongst women aged 15 to 45. Tony Monley is championing this within Rotary and I am quite sure that his interest in this important issue was first sparked by the local meeting that Gloria and I coordinated back in 2014 when he was District Governor and attended our White Ribbon event here in Emerald.

 

Finally, thanks again to everyone who turned out early to assist with car parking and other logistics for the Puffing Billy Great Train Race on Sunday.  I have to say that the vibe at the event seemed particularly good with a number of attendees personally thanking Rotarians for their help and support.
