Dear friends,

 

When I started as President, I was keen to build on our clubs' legacy of community service by bringing opportunities to our members to undertake 'hands on' activities. Last week, when we packed 200 birthing kits for mothers in the developing world, was a great example of what we can do, and the impact that we can have when we support the Rotary ideal of 'doing good in the world'.

 

It's important for all of us to appreciate that not every project needs to be a funded District or Global Grant, or be a project that has a long operational period. Smaller projects, often completed in a day, can compliment and in some instances, enhance other club projects. If any member has an idea, and wants to discuss this with me, or our Board, please give us a call. I can't promise that every idea will be supported, but I can promise that every idea will be listened to.

 

Throughout our 46 year history, our club is fortunate to have instigated many significant projects, such as the Rotary Kids Fun Run, The All American Car Display, the Debutante Ball, establishing new EarlyAct Clubs, and now the upcoming Dementia Cafe, all of which provide substantial benefits to our local community. These projects allow our members to be part of something special, to use their skills, or learn new skills, whilst actively assisting our local and in some cases, our global community.

 

Looking forward, this Tuesday is our social night, and I would encourage all members to attend the footy night at the Gembrook Football Club. It'll be a fun way to socialise and to get into the spirit of the upcoming AFL Grand Final. A big thank you to Catherine, Emma and Toni-Anne, for their effort in organising the night.

 

Also, last Sunday, many of us walked 9km to raise the profile of mental health and suicide prevention through supporting the 'out of the shadows' awareness campaign. Unfortunately, as a community, more work is needed to assist those with a mental illness.
