How good is this time of the year?!?! A time of giving and sharing. A time of family and friends. I love having Christmas in Summer! People are generally feeling happier; with longer days and sunshine chasing away the “Winter Blues.” School is ending, carols are beginning to fill the shops, mince pies are on offer and magpies have stopped swooping! (It also brings a birthday celebration each year!! Yippee!!!)
As Rotarians we give all year round, but a bit of a recap on our recent giving to make Christmas even better for a lot of people.
We’ve given a total of $1000 to St Lukes in Cockatoo for Christmas hams to be included in their hampers for deserving families. $500 to St Marks for their hampers and $500 (through St Marks) for the community’s “Carols by the Lake.”
Susi has organized Christmas gifts for the residents at Emerald Glades aged care facility which will hopefully bring smiles to the older members of our community. ;)
Our donation to Shelter Box will hopefully bring comfort to a family affected by a recent natural disaster and our $500 donation to the DG Family Project will provide books to school children who don’t have books of their own.
That’s just our giving in the past month or so!!!
We had a very good meeting last week and are eagerly awaiting the final total from the Kids’ Fun Run With Thomas. Last I heard, the fundraising by the children alone had raised around $20,000!!! That’s amazing!! Can’t wait to find out how much we get to give to the Monash Children’s Cancer Centre!! Thank you again, to everyone who pitched into help with this event. John Henderson has done an incredible job as head of the committee, but I know he couldn’t do it alone! What a terrific effort all round! Thank you for giving your time and energy to make this day fabulous for all those hundreds of children and their families.
Not much else to say this edition (I can hear you all breathing a sigh of relief) so I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting. PLEASE let Lorna know if you are coming or not….the pub is appreciating receiving a bit of advanced warning as to how many to expect. Rotary Christmas will be celebrated on Tuesday 17th Dec, so make sure you’re coming along to that one!
