Hi everyone

It is a great achievement and confirmation that Emerald Rotary has been recognised again in the Community for all the hard work that we have done and continue to do,  by being awarded the inaugural EVA Community group of the Year 2021 award at the EVA awards on Wednesday evening at the Hub. This is a team award that we have all contributed to and as such we should feel very proud of ourselves. Ros has drafted our media release to ensure that the Community is aware also and that we were selected based on our support of them.

And continuing on the theme of Awards it was an absolute pleasure that I was able to present past members Martin Buoncristiani and Peter Hadwen with Honorary memberships at our meeting on Tuesday. Their work and dedication over the years has been immense and this award allows them still to feel part of Club and know that they are welcome along at any time. And who would have believed where the missing badge was!

Our guest speaker on Tuesday was Lynne Trensky from the Business group – apart from her being very informative and interesting,  we found out the next evening that she was being awarded the EVA “Citizen of the Year”.

Not to be left out of a presentation was one of our newest members Tracey Bannister. Tracey has only been in the Club 5 minutes and wearing  all the gear – t shirt, jacket, hat and Pen! Now she has her Dinner badge.

The $400 grant offered by District to assist Clubs already running the Hybrid system to add to/update their equipment was approved for Emerald a couple of days ago and I have already sent off our banking details.  This will now allow us to purchase all the items we require and not have to use items provided by John Shaw or Ian Ash. Our improved set up is working much better, it is just a shame that the internet signal is always dodgy.

The first of five “fundraising” concerts at Rochford Winery commences on Sunday with Best of the Eagles, Chantoozies and Brian Mannix appearing.  Vicki, Roy and I will be working along with members from Belgrave and Monbulk Clubs.  My RSA (responsible serving of alcohol) certificate has come through and I have to say that was a sigh of relief.  The last unit requires you to video 3 role plays – fun!

Well done Kris and the Fundraising team. The Sausage sizzle outside Emerald Butchers on Saturday was very successful with $294.30 raised.  As ever Alan generously donated the sausages, bought his own snag at an inflated price and paid for the new gas bottle.

Next week is our AGM, so if you could try to attend that would great. It will be revealed who will our new President for the 2023/2024 year. Off course we all know that Marcus Adams is rearing to go for 2022/2023. Following the AGM, I am thinking up a” fun” session for you.

Don’t forget to get your RSVPs to Lorna by 7th Dec for our Christmas Party at The Independent on Tuesday 14th December.  I believe the cost is $50ph and that we are looking at a Bad Santa $10 – Kelly is working on the programme so hope to confirm more soon.

Also, for the Belgrave Rotary Xmas at Rose Cottage, Monbulk on Wednesday 8th December I have 4 members confirmed and I will recirculate the attendance list on Tuesday with a pen that works better,

Have a great weekend. Look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday

Yours in Rotary,

Shalini Penny, President

Know Your Rotarian - Sangeeta Bajaj

Thank you to Sangeeta for providing her 'Know Your Rotarian' talk.

Sangeeta was born in Fiji and grew up in Suva and provided an insight into her life and career and the establishment of her business Thats Right Bookkeeping.  For those who missed the talk, find time to chat to Sangeeta ... from going to school with some Bollywood actors to working in the restaurant Aneesh's dad owned, to living in Sydney, NZ then settling in Melbourne - her life has been far from mundane!!!
