Last Week's Meeting

• Kerry is feeling fine. He has been going out, mainly down the street and wearing a mask. He is still as upbeat as ever.
• Thanks to everyone who supported Sunday’s Car Rally, and to the organising committee of Kelly and Carol, and to Kris who did the artwork for the certificates.
• Congratulations to the winners Andrew and friends (arousing suspicion he had access to inside info’ ??), to Ali and Roy for best-dressed in thetheme of “Cops and Robbers”, and to wooden-spooners Gloria and Everett.

• Marcus attended President-Elect Training and the Youth Protection Sessions, and the latter especially was fantastic. Our Club is doing what is expected of it in this area.
• Marcus asked for a show of hands of those enrolled in the training sessions and was very pleased by the numbers.

Committee Reports

• Marcus is hoping to induct Chris McLeod at next week’s meeting. Marcus and Lorna will be “examining” Chris tonight and are looking forward to it. Chris has already participated a lot in our Club’s activities.
• Some changes to the Membership Application Form were approved at the May Board meeting; these were answering how you decided to join our Rotary Club, and what you wish to get out of the Club experience. Also you agree to abide by the Rotary Code of Conduct, which is an integral part of our organisation.
• Our Club has grown despite Covid.

• Our share of the District Grant is $3,000 and we have to buy something, then they will pay. Some students at Emerald Secondary College need counselling but because of a shortage of money, they don’t have access to the psychologists. We can use the money in $50 increments to cover the shortfall.
• Re the Emerald Kitchen Garden: the students are making the plans and doing the work themselves, and half-way into the year the money has not been spent. So Tina will see if they can move more quickly. They are learning about planting and growing.
• Macclesfield PS: has bought little boxes for the youngest pupils to build with helped by the older ones with our $600 donation.
• Menzies Creek PS: Our $600 donation was used to pay for the work that the Men’s Shed did.
• Gembrook PS: only bought 20 ukuleles with our donation instead of 30, so have used the remainder to buy drumsticks.
• that has been handed out has a sticker saying “donated by the Rotary Club of Emerald & District”.

• There is still more need in Lismore; they need monetary help because they have all been displaced.
• Some are being housed in “pods”, which are not so desirable for young children and the elderly.
• There may be food shortages as all businesses are currently shut down.
• Emma has recommendations to take to the Board
• Information will be handed over to the incoming Chair.

• The roster to be filled for next month’s market will be circulated soon.
• We have to look after members as the weekend of the 11^th June is going to be full on.

• Help will be needed on the Friday afternoon and Saturday morning to collect all of the equipment, as our stalwart Day Gowland is taking a rare weekend off.
• We considered not having the Market, but we’re building momentum and don’t want to stall that.
• We will have the digital advertising sign again in June.
• Egg and bacon rolls will also be sold at the Sausage Sizzle.

• The 3 students who received the McLeod-Murphy Scholarship last year are continuing with their medical studies, so they will receive the second $1,000 to assist with their expenses.
• They might visit on the 21^st of June but as they are feeling nervous, they may be interviewed instead of giving a speech.

• The next Sausage Sizzle at Alan the Butcher’s is 18^th June.

• Operating solely most of the year with Kerry being absent etc.
• Keeping the attendance records
• Liaising with the Paradise re the no. of members attending the meeting
• Assisting the other service committees
• Looking after the Club phone until recently – in Catherine’s hands now

• Takes place on Sunday 4^th of December 2022.
• Planning process has started.
• Has touched base with the sponsors and is trying to secure more.
• Re the staffing document, lots of the Working With Children documentation is out of date. Secretary John Shaw will check the list and make any necessary updates. If you need to update your card, the process does not take long.

• Lyn Beckwith has been taking the lead.
• Lorna is doing the computer work, and will be sending reports to the venue, e.g. dietary requirements.
• 35 couples.
• Ticket sales end on Friday 27^th of May.

• There are 3 dance practices still to go at ESC on a Thursday and then 2:45pm. on the day at the venue, after the photo session.
• Doors open at 7pm.
• The Official Party will be Mayor Jeff Springfield, two reps. from the College and President Shalini (for the second time this year!).
• P-E Marcus may attend as many of the lads he coaches are partners of the Debs.

• Is Saturday the 25^th of June at the Southern Golf Course, Keysborough.
• There are only 100 tx left. At Sunday’s President-Elects’ Training, a big point was made about the Changeover to the other P-E’s, so get your tx. now if you intend coming.
• A very talented singing group is expected on the night.
• The Shaws and the McAllisters will be ushers.
• Nicholas Adams will be performing with some other musicians.
• Dress to impress: ladies can wear a long frock if they wish. The gents? Who knows?

• Is the 28^th of June.
• Venue to be decided, not Montagues because it’s too expensive.
• A more local venue is being considered.

• Marcus has joined the team from Emerald Psychology Practice, to walk for mental health by taking part in Coastrek, the ultimate team trekking and fundraising challenge, proudly supporting Beyond Blue. 

• Some of the team includes Rotarians Hita, Emma, Kelly and Sangeeta.
• Please assist Marcus with his fundraising if you can.

• Grandmother ran the Post Office from her home.
• Kath and younger sisters secretly wore their bathers under their clothes to go swimming in the creek on her property.
• Her father who was English went off to war.
• The mother eventually moved the family to East Malvern.
• Kath studied at MacPhersons to the 8^th Grade.
• Became a florist in Caulfield and then a Home Economics assistant at a school.
• She loved gardening and crosswords.
• Enjoyed being part of the Café Club, a group of 15 who went by bus every Monday, until Covid intervened.
• The Craft Shop in Upwey supplied her with wool and she knitted coat-hanger covers.

• Thanked Chris for attending her last meeting as a guest in all probability.
• Thanked Sangeeta and Marcus for chairing the Club Assembly meeting.
• Thanked John Ritchie for his Toast to the Elderly talk.
