Hi everyone

 

This week there is quite a bit to report. The public holiday on Monday for Anzac Day saw a number of Emerald Rotary larks up early for the Dawn Service at the Emerald RSL and then a few hours later a group of us took part in the Community march arriving at the RSL for the 11am service and laying of a wreath. Thank you, Russ Nielsen, for carrying the banner and to Gayle, Lyn, Roy, Lorna and Catherine for walking. Russell Marnock had the dilemma of being a member of 2 groups, however in view of the fact that the U3A only had 1 representative we allowed him to walk with her.

 

Hot on the heels of Anzac Day was the Burnt Chop social at Roy & Ali’s beautiful property. We were fortunate with a mild evening that allowed us to socialise outside in one of the many landscaped areas with pride of place in front of the large firepit. The spit roasts were cooked to perfection and the salads and sweets provided by the members were superb. Thank you to our wonderful hosts. And Poppy is adorable.

 

At the last Board meeting the Board voted on donating funds to both Queensland to assist with the flood devastation and to the Ukraine via the Rotary Disaster Response Fund. I am pleased to report that $2000 has been donated to the Lismore Rotary Club to administer on our behalf and $1000 to Ukraine.

 

Last Friday I attended the President’s meeting – one of the items mentioned was a reminder that if you are a Centurion or Foundation supporter to please make your payment as soon as possible to take advantage of a healthy exchange rate.  The Club donation was budgeted for and now that we have sufficient funds it has been paid. “Foundation” is one of the Club’s Citation targets.

 

Whilst I haven’t seen much come through in regards the yearly training sessions known as District Assembly, I have noted however that they will be held from 22nd – 29^th May. They will all be online, which at least saves travelling time. Everyone is encouraged to take part in at least take a couple of the subjects even if you have already attended a similar session previously as things do change. And for the newer members it is something that you do need to undertake. I understand from DGE Ken Miller that information is due to be emailed to us all next week.

 

I have updates on the health of 3 of our members: Kerry Champness - underwent his first session of chemo last week over 3 days and has had no adverse reactions. He has a multiple of tablets to take and will go for his second session in 3 weeks’ time.  He hopes to attend a meeting soon. Ian Ash - has had a set back with a 4-inch blood clot on his broken foot. He can’t stand for long periods and needs to keep a foot up when seated. Greg Adams – Feeling much better having had his medication modified and is getting regular check ups and hopes to be at the next meeting. We send all three of you our good wishes.

We are looking at a couple more social activities before the end of June – a curry evening in Belgrave and another Car Rally. Watch this space!
