• Had cancer and 6 doses of chemotherapy and the oncologist says he’s clear of cancer
• Is having blood tests every 3 months, which will show up anything
• Tolerated chemo’ very well, was only sick for the first 24 hours
• After that had no problems at all and was lucky
• The chemo’ may have affected his eyes so is not sure if he’s able to drive
• A brain scan showed pressure on the myopic nerve
• Chemo’ makes the fingers and hands go numb making it hard to do up buttons and turn over pages of newspapers
• So many people in hospital couldn’t believe he’s 82
• Had he been diagnosed 20 years ago, he wouldn’t have survived
• The Asians and Indians staffing the hospitals are amazing
• Our Rotary Club has been absolutely fantastic and all his visitors knew about the Emerald Club
• He and his family all appreciate everything Rotarians have done providing meals etc.

• 2 months into 6 months of the chemo’ and immunotherapy program; they will find out soon if it has made a difference
• Handling the treatment quite well, but is lethargic
• Has tingling fingers from the chemo’
• In great spirits, looks well but has lost weight.

President Marcus’s Announcements:

1. As a member of the D9810 Conference Committee, he is organising guest speakers and was delighted to report that Brett Sutton has been secured as the Keynote Speaker, talking on where we have ended up as a result of the pandemic.
2. All our members are invited to the EVA’s Citizen of The Year Award on the 26^th October at 7pm. at the Hills Hub.
3. Thanks to all the members who participated in Saturday’s Market; when there were late “outs”, members came out and supported the Market.
4. Thanks to Shalini, some of us went to the Archibald Prize at Bunjil Place. It was a great Sunday arvo’ and it’s great to do things together that aren’t Rotary.
5. The Club voted positively on the Regionalisation Project so that is proceeding.
6. There are big changes with the Kids Fun Run – see Hendo’s Report later.
7. Monbulk and Belgrave RCs have low numbers, so to improve the vibe when they have visitors, 2 of our members will attend their meetings to show support; a roster will be drawn up.
8. A joint “Burnt Chop” in January 2023 will be held at the Belgrave President’s home.
9. A Cluster meeting will be held at Ginfinity on the 15^th of November.
10. Over $1,000 has been raised for Chris Adams’ legacy; Gayle is researching into Australian Rotary Health for projects relating to lung disease.

Committee Reports:

• Thomas is “knackered” and the plan was for the kids to run against James.
• Mattel had not been informed for the 2021 or 2022 Fun Run, and had not approved the 2022 sponsorship as they need at least a six month lead-in time. So we cannot have the KFR with Thomas but we can have the KFR with Puffing Billy on the same day using Puffing Billy.
• A group minus John who was in Iso with Covid, met with PBR and John has sent lots of documentation.
• There is now a KFRWPB Facebook page and the registration has been changed.
• Kris Ash has been absolutely outstanding and Aneesh has also done a great job.
• John has contacted all the sponsors who have all agreed to the change.
• The Board has approved it as well.

• We had 13 stalls including our own.
• We just need people from the main street to come over. How do we do that?
• We have three new stallholders for November.
• The police presence was good and they are keen to come back.
• The SES and CFA will attend in the future.
• We need to try to draw in more stallholders.

• The profit was $621.83 this month.

• Half the care packages were delivered to students at ESC two weeks ago.
• The next delivery will happen on Tuesday; they are bags of lollies basically.
• We have been invited to the Valedictory Dinner in December when two watches for citizenship will be presented.
• Marcus will give a brief speech.
• We have received a request from Macclesfield Primary School. They want to take 40 Grade 5 and 6 students to a science event in the city. We are paying for the bus to transport them at a cost of $552.
• ESC is taking a group of year 12 students to the city at the start of the new school year for 3 days to show them the universities.
• They have speakers coming in which makes it quite expensive, so we will pay $1,470 to cover the cost of some of the speakers.
• Youth has enough money to cover this expense which the Board has approved.
• Now the schools are coming to us with requests which is preferable to us asking them what they need.
• The Marie Ranger Scholarship will be extended to all primary schools in the area for the sake of fairness.
• At Gembrook Primary school, a Chris Adams citizenship award will be presented.
• The Youth Committee will write a paragraph about Marie and Chris and will have it read out at the presentation.
• Cockatoo PS has a citizenship award that we present.
• Don’t know about Menzies Creek.
• Tina will talk to Emma to see what Emerald PS needs.
• We have had a win with the Men’s Shed and Alan. There’s been a problem with the ESC’s kitchen garden so Alan has drawn up a plan and costed it all.
• We can present the plan to get the grant for the watering system
• The men will build the garden beds and we only pay for the materials.

• President Marcus has approved that in two weeks’ time we will collect data to measure the CO2 emissions our club meetings generate, and we will use the Rotary Carbon Calculator to work out the amount of emissions.
• We could make a real difference if we could enable 46,000 Rotary Clubs in the world to become carbon zero.
• And encourage 1.4 million Rotarians to reduce their emissions.
