Sergeant David Gale oversaw an entertaining fines session; some of the most notable ones being: Chris Adams who rang Ian Wakefield for help because he had run out of fuel; Roy Bowyer who parked his Mercedes over two car parking spaces at the All American Car Display event; and Andrew McAllister who, as wife Kelly explained, picked up their freshly washed pooch late one night only to discover she’d been rolling in her own doggy do, suffice to say, she had to have another bath!

 

 

Kerry Champness reported that the group was very happy with their new digs within the new Emerald Community Hub. The Men’s Shed now has a very large space, efficient dust extraction system to remove wood dust and an excellent loading bay for trucks delivering materials. Kerry, was however, concerned that when the new community facility, local shops and sports grounds are in full swing at the same time, car parking will continue to be a challenge for all.

 

Russ Nielson reported that the committee has now conducted a review of the event and prepared a report which will be presented to the Board. Russ said the report contained a number of recommendations including how to improve the pedestrian and car entrance interface should the event continue to be held at Toomuc Reserve in Pakenham. Russ said the committee is looking to expand its membership and needs assistance with publicity and running the Facebook campaign which is critical for spreading the word and driving attendance on the day.

 

Russell Marnock, with assistance from Susi Wilson, is organising a film night on Friday, 1 May as a fundraiser to help End Trachoma. To be held at Gemco in Emerald, the film is called “Homeland Story”, an intimate portrait of Donydji, an indigenous community in north east Arnhem Land, from the 1960s to the present day. It is a moving story of their struggle to preserve the community’s vibrant culture and to remain on their homeland despite many severe obstacles. Russell and Susi would welcome any other people to help organise the event.

 

Vicki Van Den Bergen reported that as part of the celebrations to commemorate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, all Rotary clubs are required to run a centenary project in 2021. Vicki is seeking ideas of potential projects that could be considered. Aneesh will put a link to a video that explains all about this event on our club’s website.
