It was nice to have Honorary member Colin Brown attend Tuesday’s meeting and good to put a face to the name. Hopefully he can do so more often and we would love to see him and our other Honorary members: Martin Buoncristiani, Peter Hadwen and Denis Jones when able to attend. Also present in person was Ros Weadman who has been joining via the Hybrid platform due to her time restraints of running her business, farm and completing her latest book “Enhance your Reputation” and released on Wednesday 9th March.
Ros’s book follows on the heels of another of our member’s book releases. Ian Ash recently released his essential guide for small and medium business leaders entitled “From Passion to Profit”. We have received press coverage in 2 news mediums this week. Page 12 of Ranges Trader Star mail has a quarter page entitled “Busy February for Rotary” and covers off the Deb Ball, Storm Recovery Festival and gives a plug for the monthly Emerald Rotary Market, which is good timing in view of the fact that the Market is this Saturday and we have the CFA bringing an appliance along. The other coverage was in the Emerald Village Association newsletter and again spread the word that this community group is around and working!
Thank you to Vicki, Gayle and Chris Barrot who represented the Club at the Australia Day Clean up last Sunday. The back lane is looking so much better now. The next date for the diary is Anzac Day, Monday 25th April. This will the first time in 3 years that the march will be able to take place. The plan is to meet in the town centre ahead of 10.30am for the march to commence then. Those members who would like to take part will walk together (in Rotary gear) with the club banner arriving at Anzac Place for the 11.00am morning service and laying of the wreath.
Tina and the Youth team are doing a brilliant job working with Emerald Secondary College to create a long-term sustainable garden area that can be used for the whole school community. They have already secured a $5000 grant from Cardinia Council and hope to be able to add more funds towards the completion of the project. The plot of land was overgrown originally and has already been cleared and headway made - photos have been taken and will be provided in the coming weeks. Not only is this project covering our commitment to Youth but also ticking off the Sustainability and Environment area of focus. Well done guys.
Talking of grants – can you all please keep an eye out for any that will allow us to be able to secure our own marquee complete with Rotary Club of Emerald & District signage. I noticed at the Storm Festival that a few clubs had their own and Graham Aspinall from Ferntree Gully Rotary says they obtained a grant to cover the purchase of theirs. Seems all sourced from Altetgra.com.au (1300 784 552). Think we are only talking around $2000.
Next Tuesday Greg Adams is talking – not about Tenderfoot as was originally advertised but a surprise topic with audience participation. It is strongly recommended that you bring your partner along and a pillow each. Intrigued? See you then.

In early November 2021 Your Local Pantry opened
Core reason was to support other local businesses
The idea has been in the making for 2 yrs, COVID was the motivator for it to get off the ground
Sarah had friends who were producers and not selling at markets
She gave up her prof. life (was a psychologist originally) and decided to put The Pantry into place
30 local suppliers on board that supply the store at the moment
Everything else is Australian and small business, as well as VIC businesses becoming bigger eg Bilsons
Promotion of local produce – increase personal economy in the area and reduce food miles.COVID has shown buying just Australian has become an issue
Everything in the store is home compostable – zero footprint
Not a health food store, local businesses
The store has expanded 3 times since opening – now has the juice and foody bar and will have coffee bar in the store
In a couple of week’s time the store will have a full sit-down menu
Grazing platters and hampers can be purchased and taken away
Hours 8.00 am to 5.30 pm
