- Been building since 2007 – full time in 2013
- Fitness and Kickboxing (11 yrs ago and teach adults that) as well as self defence
- Values are Fun, Integrity and Teamwork
- The pillars are: Skill – knowledge – attitude – surrounding an Ausified Japanese culture
- Video training on YouTube etc
- 15 clubs in Victoria – a very supportive network
- Distance – Timing and the line of the attach is important – straight line fighting – going straight
- 80-90 students attend the classes in total

No respondent said they were not interested, and over half of the respondents said they were very interested in environmental issues, which is fantastic.

The green colour shows the highest score, mustard the 2nd highest score and so on. Based on the scores the respondents gave, Climate Change and Responsible Consumption and Waste Disposal were the most concerning issues but the others were not far behind.
Regarding “Responsible Consumption and Waste Disposal”, you may recall at a recent meeting I said that, “…today we use three times more resources than in 1970.”
I should put that statement in context; today there are 7.5 billion people and we have a global economy. In the last 50 years since 1970, the population has doubled and the global economy is 5.5 times larger, so the demand for food has tripled, water use has doubled and the consumption of fossil fuels has also tripled.
So it was wrong of me if I gave the impression that we Westerners are being greedy and selfish. Population growth and globalisation have driven the consumption to a large extent.
I also believe there would not be a single person in this room or on screen who hasn’t made at least a few changes to their lifestyle over the last couple of years. And I think that would be an interesting discussion to have in the future, (please) Marcus.

Local community-based issues were clearly the most popular. These could involve working alongside the Youth Committee and our local schools, and other local groups such as The Men’s Shed, Emerald Village Association, Emerald Community House and Friends of Emerald Lake Park etc.
An example of a nation-wide initiative would be “Clean-Up Australia Day” which occurs annually in March, but there is flexibility with the date.
An example of an International campaign would be World Environment Day held annually in June. We can and should promote that day in our community.

Hands-on activities and fundraising were the most popular. The E&S Committee has a budget of $3,000, and funds could be spent on a display or stand at our monthly Market. Being seen actively supporting our environment is a drawcard for like-minded people to join our Club.

Guest speakers were the most preferred and please contact Hita our Program Coordinator with your suggestions.
Attachments to Sparkle were also favoured but it may not be that straightforward.
There is a lot of excellent educational material freely available, for example YouTube videos by Project Drawdown, who say they are the world’s leading resource for Climate Solutions.
I discovered their Climate Change 101 course via the ESRAG Newsletter and the content, delivered by Jonathan Foley PhD, is excellent for those like me without a science background.

“Do not take on too much”. This is good advice as we are in “Protecting the Environment” for the long haul.
We hope to run one or two activities with large-scale Club participation so hopefully you will come on board, plus have a couple of small-scale initiatives too.
Our Club is already a very active one and all the committees are busy and have their own focus.
As an aside to the suggestion to implement a tree-planting program, and as a way of saying “Thank you” to some guest speakers, we could pay $5 to have a tree planted in their name.
