Rotary Meeting 13 December - if we can remember that far back!!

• PP PHF Tom (Santa) Watson – 13^th December 17 years in Rotary
• Chair of All American – Greg Adams (Committee – PP PHF Ian Wakefield, IPP PHF Shalini Penny and Andrew McAllister)
• SES Awards Night – PP PHF Shalini and Pres. PHF Marcus attended – 100 people there also invited Berwick and Emerald Op Shops.Ben Owen has increased membership of 40 all 30 and under.

Tracey Bannister – Behind the Badge

• Mum and Dad born in England
• 3 and 9 moved to Australia both knew each other and moved to Sale – knew each other all their lives
• Burwood – Milk Bar – Receptionist and then the business owner of butcher’s shop
• Dad – jack of all trades and plasterer – apprenticeship as a butcher
• Mum had the old ledger books and would go through the receipts Tracey knew wanted to
• When sold butchers shop - night school financial counsellor and worked with those suffering hardship
• Older brother and younger sister – holidays x country skiing and camping
• Block of land on Phillip Island purchased and lives there now and retired
• Tracey – did Brownies and Girl Guides – mum joined GG group as a leader
• Biggest passion was dancing – teenage years 5 out of 7 days gave it up when 18
• No one wakes up and wants to be an optician – saw an ad for OPSM as an apprentice in the paper on a Saturday morning.Failed all the maths tests and physics, but got position as liked her personality.Now knows it all!!! 4 year apprenticeship
• Manager in north WA also been a trainer and now a business owner in her own right
• Boyes Ethan and Ayden – Ethan auditioned for junior master chef and got in the top 50 was so proud of himself
• Ethan 24 – Bachelor of Science & Ayden 21 – finished cert IV in outdoor education taking school groups caving kayaking etc.
• Try to give them a lot of things they didn’t have when younger
• Took part in walk for cancer research
• Miss Muddy Run & Cathedral ranges walk in own time
• Looking at self-development outside of business – Kokoda Trail – raised $12k for alopecia
• In 12 weeks going to undertake Mt Kosciusko
• Emerald Eye Optics – optometrist is excellent - very fortunate to have her in the team
• The shop was a shell when leased – Dad and Mum helped fit the shop out
• Dream to travel Australia in her van

Committee Reports

• 26 February 2023 – keynote day for environment.So good opportunity to show how we support the environment.5 tonnes of CO2 produced by our meetings over a year.Johns Hill Lands Care – site clean-up in February.Meeting with the land care group early February.
• Attended meeting on ending plastic waste – need to give up using single use plastic.In USA 94% of plastics are not recycled.Only 20% of plastics can be recycled.
• KFRWPB looking at phasing out plastic water bottles.Yarra Valley Water may be able to assist.Guest speaker in April next year will be speaking to the club.
• Rotary International Convention 21-27 May 27,000 Rotarians will be attending.These are really good and Vicki encourages the club members to attend.

• Our District Conference 78 days to go – Gayle is starting to talk about costumes – request for members to have some input this year
• Kris Kringle $10 and also BYO Christmas Party
• Market – shout out to all those who assisted – Jenny, Gloria and Tina – the cake stall went well.Plant stall went well nearly $1400 raised.15 stalls and 3 people asking on the day to sign up.Board meeting end of Jan to decide what we are doing moving forward and also insurance.We sold bags for the Children’s Hospital $95

• We have some good speakers coming up in the new year as well as Pride of Workmanship – do you know anyone who may want to come along and join us?Think ahead and ask them to meetings and our events so they can get a sense of what Rotary is all about.
