The President's Judgement
member photo
(With President Marcus indisposed this week, in what will be a sad and challenging time ahead, The Spangles have been given permission to write the report for this week…..did you know they have a Facebook page?!)

Thank you everyone for your attendance at the meeting last week as we came together for a lovely evening of reminiscing about our great friend and amazing Rotarian PP. PHF Chris Adams. It was especially nice it was to see past members, Leigh Peters, Billy Crombie and Peter Maloney, along with guests, Nicholas and Lia Adams, Jamie Elfick and Alan Beckwith, albeit under the sad circumstances.

It was wonderful to hear so many memorable and funny stories about Chris, I think we all learned a little bit more about our beloved friend. Thank you to PP. PHF Dona Borg and DG Ken Miller (PP PHF) for hosting and chairing the evening, and to PP. PHF Vicki Van Den Bergen for her heartfelt response. Chris’ legacy lives on in many ways, particularly in the hearts and minds of those Club Members who have come to know and admire him over the years. We loved hearing the fishing stories and about the many “Horse’s Ass” awards over the years – accolades that he was proud of! His Rotary achievements were many and varied, however, mostly we were reminded of his kind smile and the welcoming words he offered to all of us.

A reminder that the funeral for Chris is on this Wednesday 24th August, 1.30pm at the Gembrook Community Centre. Our thoughts will be with Jeanette, Marcus, Sally, Nicholas, Lia, and Marika and her family this week, and onwards.

This Tuesday as our guest speaker we have Bianca Appleby, who is the Student Well-being Leader at Emerald Primary School. She is talking about the Respectful Relationships program, which is now running in all state schools. The program comes from the Royal Commission into domestic violence, focussing on the idea that respect starts in the early years, that the language we use makes a difference and that role modelling matters.

Next week, of course, we have the wonderful Primary Schools Speech Competition, where we will be hearing from student representatives from all of our local primary schools speaking on topics from who their heroes are, to their pet peeves and whether dogs are better than cats! This event replaces our normal meeting, so please head to Macclesfield Primary School on Tuesday 30th August – not the pub. Vicki has already circulated the roster and thank you to those who put their name down. If you are unsure of what the night looks like or have any other queries, please contact Gloria, Vicki or Lyn for more information.

Now, onto The Spangles and their latest gigs and bookings…..oh no, apparently we are out of space!! Never mind – catch up soon!

Last Week's Meeting - 16 August 2022

We spent the meeting reflecting on our friend and fellow Rotarian, PP PHF Chris Adams.  Chris joined Rotary on 1/6/1984 over 38 years ago - the only other longer servicing Rotarian is PP PHF Russ Nielsen with 39 years of service to his name.

Marcus reflected how appropriate it was that his dad was MC at the Changeover night just 6 weeks or so ago.  At that evening Marcus mentioned we are custodians of the club and reflected on past members who had come and gone.   Chris was one of the best custodians we could have wished for.

A reminder that the funeral for Chris is on this Wednesday 24th August, 1.30pm at the Gembrook Community Centre and a gathering afterwards at The Independent.

Our thoughts are very much with Marcus and the family this week.

It seems appropriate to include the image below of our longest serving club Rotarian with Chris at the All American.

We recognised Andrew McAllister's Birthday at the meeting.
