Highlights 2020-21
2020-2021 was a year like no other for fundraisers around the world. With COVID lockdowns and distancing restrictions face to face events were cancelled across the globe. The Rotary Club of Emerald & District was also affected with the Kids Fun Run with Thomas and one of our club major fundraising events, the All-American Car Show and Man Cave Alley, cancelled in February. At both of these events, fundraising activities for the club usually take place (raffles and a Donut Van).
Despite having our hands ‘tied behind out backs’, the wonderful fundraising team joined me and jumped into action to provide as much virtual fundraising as possible.
We held a virtual wine and cheese evening in September. This took some planning including a relay around the 5 km. restrictions to distribute the wine and cheese to members. Registrations plus post event sales raised $652.06. We are grateful to Olinda Wine Cellars for their support of this event and our very own tasting experts who deftly led us through a fun evening. Closely following the Wine and Cheese Evening, a virtual Cup Day was planned in November; this also included a trivia quiz and some nibbles efficiently organised by Kelly. This event raised $276.79.
As Victoria began to open, we planned the first of what we hope will be an annual Car Rally around the wonderful hills environment we live in – it certainly was good to get out and about! The Rally finished at the Rose Cottage Tea Rooms in Monbulk and we thank the crew there for being wonderful hosts. Congratulations to the Rally winners, Ian and Jenny Wakefield and thank you to all the participants who helped us raise $429.35. As a committee we are so glad we didn’t win!
With the milestone of 100 years of Rotary in Australia being marked this year, the committee decided to set up an online, peer to peer fundraising event whereby participants committed to walk 100km. in a month for Rotary. Given that this took even minimal organisation and could be done in everyone’s own time, we are delighted to report it raised $3,568.96 for the club.
Sausage sizzles at Emerald Village Meats and the new Trash 2 Treasure market also swelled fundraising in the months between March and June.
Our budgeted fundraising for the year was planned to be conservative at $5,050, because the year started in July right in the middle of the 8-month lock down in Victoria.
In response to the Storm event in the Dandenong Hills, our Sausage Sizzle on 19th of June raised $571.20 in support of the local community and will be utilized to provide much needed assistance.
I am pleased to report the Fundraising Committee raised $6,733.84 in total during this difficult year. Thank you to the wonderful fundraising team, Shalini Penny, Kelly McAllister and PP, PHF Emma Clark who made up the awesome foursome!!
