Welcome to The Golden Hour Café

Where?

Emerald RSL - 3 Memorial Ave, Emerald VIC 3782

When?

1st and 3rd Wednesday morning of the month from 10am - 12 noon

Created by the Rotary Club of Emerald & District, in association with Umbrella Dementia Cafes, The Golden Hour Café is a warm and welcoming place for people living with dementia and their family carers to spend time together in a relaxed and supportive environment.

More than just a café, it is a space where friendships grow, laughter is shared, and people feel understood and supported.

A place for connection
A place for laughter
A place where everyone is welcome

Here, members can enjoy a friendly morning together, share stories over a cup of tea or coffee, and take part in activities designed to create joy, engagement and meaningful connection.

Our Approach

At The Golden Hour Café, our members are at the heart of everything we do.

Our program is built around a three-fold approach to connection and wellbeing:

Supporting people living with dementia to stay socially connected

Helping care partners maintain strong and meaningful relationships with their loved one

Ensuring both remain connected to their wider community

This approach helps create a sense of belonging, purpose and dignity for everyone who attends.

Our dedicated volunteers, together with the Umbrella Dementia Café team, focus on understanding what brings joy and fulfilment to each of our members. Activities are thoughtfully designed to encourage participation, independence and shared experiences in a safe and supportive setting.

A Café for the Whole Family

We recognise that dementia affects not just the individual, but the entire family.

For this reason, additional family members of registered café participants are always welcome to visit and join in the activities.

An informed and connected family support network is incredibly important. When families feel supported and connected, it strengthens resilience and helps everyone navigate future care decisions with confidence.

Membership

The Golden Hour Café operates on a membership basis of $15 per couple per session.
This small contribution helps us continue to provide a welcoming, engaging and well-supported experience for everyone who attends.

The Rotary Golden Hour Café will sit under the overall direction of the Rotary Club of Emerald & District Board with guidance from the Umbrella Dementia Cafes' team.

The current focus of the Rotary Club is “We All Belong” in order to build connected, resilient communities.   This theme was chosen to particularly address social isolation in the hills community and create avenues for local residents to volunteer and become connected.

The Rotary Golden Hour Café project is strongly aligned with the goal to connect individuals in the community.
