This year the Vocational team have organised visits and guest speakers that showcase a variety of different vocations.
We started with a visit to the Donations In Kind warehouse where we saw the workings of this wonderful Rotary project. We were all amazed at the vast array of donated goods that were packed into containers and shipped to countries where these goods, which included medical supplies and equipment, school supplies and equipment, clothing etc, are desperately needed. It certainly inspired our club to collect necessary items and volunteer where possible. The DIK team provided us with a meal and it was great to spend time with such dedicated volunteers.
Another excursion was arranged by Hita to the Monash Synchrotron on 30th January where 18 of our members saw the workings of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation. The Australian Synchrotron supports a broad range of high-quality research, with applications in sectors from medicine and nanotechnology to manufacturing and mineral exploration. After the visit 22 of us had dinner at the Stamford Hotel, it was a great social night.
A change of meeting venue saw us at the Laughing Fox restaurant where we invited Chris Sheppard, a physic, to talk to us about her vocation, this was another good night of food, fellowship and fun.
After listening to Hita’s friend, Shaymaa, speak at one of our meetings about the Humble Mission, club members were keen to volunteer to assist with feeding the needy. 18 members and family attended on Saturday 20th April. Many of us donated food and toiletries on the day which meant they had a great variety of items to give out. It was an inspiring and humbling experience. The club donated $500 to assist with the purchase of necessary food and toiletries.
On Tuesday 30th April the vocational team also arranged a wine and cheese night to be held at the Emerald Hub. A vast array of food and drinks was on offer. Anna St Clair came along as our guest speaker and explained her vocation as a Bridge player. Bridge has enabled Anna to travel the world and meet many famous people whilst pursuing her passion for Bridge. This was a memorable night of fun. Special thanks to Marcus for arranging Anna as our guest speaker.
The Vocational team has enjoyed arranging a variety of people to speak to club members about their interesting and diverse vocations, it’s been an informative, fun time.
Thank you to club members for supporting our excursions and events and a special thanks to my team, Lyn, Don, Susi and Kerry.
